Description

BBQ Emotions is a unique way to help children learn to recognise up to 10 emotions tapping into the kinaesthetic and unique value of the colourful large skewer.

There are three different games to play using the BBQ Emotions resource/game.

  1. Acting Out Emotions – a player interpret and act out the scenes and the others choose the corresponding emotion.
  2. How do you see it – a player looks at the “scenes” and nominates the emotion they think would be reflected (and why) then other players suggest alternatives and justify or explain.
  3. Telling a Story – a player makes up or retells a story/event and other players choose the emotion being reflected.

The BBQ Emotions game is a fun and interesting way to discuss emotions and how circumstances might initiate or cause particular emotions.  It can be used as a resource or a game and as one-to-one activity in therapy or at home OR in a small group or as a whole class activity.

What comes with the BBQ Emotions game:

  • 1 large skewer (approx 55cm)
  • 10 emotions rings (to assemble, just add the stickers enclosed) – the 10 emotions included are: joy, sadness, anger, love, surprise, fear, anger, shame, disgust, pride
  • 1 poster
  • 10 scene cards (double sided) – 5 different scenarios per side so 50 altogether.  n.b. we suggest laminating the cards to ensure they will last being handled by lots of children over time.
  • Playing guide – several different kinds of game are described in the guide.

The 10 “ingredients” (emotion rings) are placed on the floor/table.

The BBQ Emotions game is designed to be a wonderful stimulus for discussion and group work.

What we love about the BBQ Emotions game

  • It is huge, colourful and promotes hands on learning and discussion around emotions
  • There are multiple way to play or to use the resource as a stimulus
  • It promotes linking emotions to a context
